Real Estate in Marietta Georgia:

Before Atlanta, there was Marietta.  Early reports indicate that the area was inhabited as early as 1824.  Cobb County was created in 1832 and the city of Marietta was recognized by the state legislature in 1834, Marietta was incorporated in 1852.

Like most small southern towns, Marietta grew up around a central town square and a railroad.  Marietta became of hub for distribution and cotton.

Interestingly, the town was virtually destroyed by fire on three separate occasions during the 1850s.  By the time the Civil War began in 1861 the town was once again thriving...only to devastated by fire once again in November 1864 in General Sherman's "March to the Sea".

Today, Marietta is thought of as a first suburb of Atlanta (we now know that's not how it really started!),   The park that now marks the center of the town square is named for the city's first mayor, John Glover.

Marietta has it's own unique style and ambiance.  The City of Marietta covers roughly 23 square miles and is home to nearly 60,000 (2013) residents, another 250,000 populate the unincorporated addresses.

Outside the city limits are the unincorporated areas that are governed by Cobb County.  Marietta is the county seat is centrally located.
